On certain vehicles, the Bosch Zero Offset Pin Slide (ZOPS) hydraulic disc brakes may experience calipers sticking in the applied position, which can result in excessive or abnormal heat generation at one or more of the brakes. In bus applications, the combination of the following factors may collectively result in an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety: potential fire at a wheel end, high incident rates of stuck calipers, and evacuation and containment concerns relating to multiple passengers. Correction: Dealers will affect repairs. This is an expansion of Recall 2003053.

On certain trucks the cotter pin that goes through the drag link ball stud at the connection to the pitman arm is missing. This pin prevents the castellated nut from loosening. If the nut loosens and comes completely off the drag link ball stud, the drag link could detach resulting in a loss of steering control. Correction: Dealers will inspect the vehicle and have a cotter pin installed if found to be missing.

Certain trucks equipped with engine starters (code 08wwn or 08wwp) built by Leece-Neville. These starters have a defective terminal adapter stud. The stud is used only at the positive battery connection to the starter solenoid. It was designed to be screwed on over the existing stud to increase the stud diameter to accommodate the larger size of the positive battery cable terminal. The adapter stud was weakened when the hole was drilled too deep. This could lead to a direct electrical short to the batteries. If the stud breaks off, the positive battery cable could short directly to ground, which can generate heat and sparks causing a fire. Correction: Dealers will replace the adapter stud.

Certain heavy-duty trucks equipped with (IROS) rear air suspensions. During assembly, four bolts and nuts holding the main support member bushing bar pins to the main support member hangers were incorrectly tightened. The nuts could work loose or fall off allowing the bolts to fatigue and fail the connection between a main support member bushing and a main support member frame hanger. Separation of the main support member assembly from the frame mounted hanger bracket could result increasing the risk of sudden loss of control of the vehicle. Correction: Dealers will install four new nuts and bolts and tighten to specification.

Certain heavy-duty trucks. These vehicles could experience a loss of the low beam headlights, the high beam headlights, or both. A software problem within the electrical system controller (esc) can cause the circuit for the low beam or the circuit for the high beam headlights to fuse or open, resulting in loss of either the low or high beam headlights or possibly even both. A headlight fusing condition could occur without warning to the driver and potentially leave the driver in a blackout situation while operating the vehicle in the dark. Correction: dealers will reprogram the esc.

2002 International 4400 recall questions
Transport Canada lists 10 recalls for the 2002 International 4400 model year. That counts campaigns naming this model year, not recalls on your vehicle: many cover only a VIN range or production window, and some only vehicles found on inspection. NHTSA lists 9 United States campaigns for the US-market model, shown separately; a US campaign may have no Canadian equivalent.
Enter your VIN in International's Canadian recall lookup, or call a International dealer with your VIN. In Canada the manufacturer is responsible for showing recall and repair status for each VIN, so its lookup is the authoritative answer. Cardog uses your VIN only to find the model year; the recalls shown here are listed for that model year and are not matched to your VIN.
Not necessarily. NHTSA campaigns cover vehicles sold in the United States, and NHTSA's VIN lookup has no Canadian data. When a defect also affects Canadian vehicles, the manufacturer files a separate notice with Transport Canada, often under a different number and sometimes covering a different set of vehicles. For a Canadian vehicle, go by the Transport Canada listing and International's Canadian lookup.
Safety recall repairs are normally done at no charge by an authorized International dealer. The manufacturer's notice for each campaign sets out the remedy and any conditions, so confirm with the dealer when you book.
Once International's lookup or a dealer confirms a recall applies, book the repair with an authorized International dealer and bring your VIN. If the manufacturer's notice says not to drive the vehicle or to park it outside, follow that instruction. Parts can take time, so book early.
Follow the manufacturer's notice for that recall. Most allow normal driving until the repair; some tell owners to stop driving or to park outside until it is fixed. Cardog does not grade recalls by severity: the manufacturer's notice and your dealer are the source.
Manufacturers must notify owners they have on record. If you bought the vehicle used or have moved, update your details with International Canada so notices reach you, and check the manufacturer's lookup from time to time.
