Certain vehicles (not involved in recall 98-150), may experience a windshield wiper failure due to cracked solder joints on the controller circuit board. If this were to occur in a severe weather situation, driver's visibility could be reduced, which could result in a vehicle crash without prior warning. Correction: Dealer will replace defective wiper motor until 7 years or 112 000 km from date vehicle was originally placed into service or for those vehicles currently outside of this coverage, until March 31 2004.
NOTE: EXTENDED CAB VEHICLES WITH SEAT BELT ASSEMBLIES WITH A DOUBLE LOOP ENERGY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM. A CONDITION EXISTS WHERE IN A FRONTAL COLLISION, IF BOTH THE LAP BELT AND SHOULDER BELT ENERGY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM LOOPS RELEASE AT/OR NEAR THE SAME TIME, ACCELERATION FORCES CAN CAUSE THE THE BUCKLE RELEASE MECHANISM TO ACTIVATE AND ALLOW THE BUCKLE TO SEPARATE FROM THE LATCH. CORRECTION: ON TRUCKS WITH GAS ENGINES OR 6.5 LITRE H.O. TURBO DIESEL ENGINES, DEALERS WILL REMOVE THE STITCHING THAT CREATES THE ENERGY MANAGEMENT LOOP IN THE SHOULDER BELT(S). ON TRUCKS WITH LIGHTER DUTY ENGINES, THE RETRACTOR PORTION OF THE SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY/ASSEMBLIES WILL BE REPLACED WITH ONE HAVING A NEWLY DESIGNED ENERGY MANAGEMENT TWIN LOOP SYSTEM
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: LIGHT DUTY PICKUP TRUCKS AND SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, 2 AND 4-WHEEL DRIVE. SOLDER JOINTS NEAR THE WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR CAN CRACK CAUSING THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS TO WORK INTERMITTENTLY.
THIS CONDITION CAN RESULT IN INOPERATIVE WIPERS, REDUCING A DRIVER'S VISIBILITY, AND INCREASING THE RISK OF A VEHICLE CRASH.
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE WIPER MOTOR CIRCUIT BOARD AND COVER.

IF THE BUCKLE RELEASED, THE SYSTEM WOULD FAIL TO PROVIDE ADEQUATE OCCUPANT RESTRAINT PROTECTION.
DEALERS WILL REMOVE THE STITCHING THAT CREATES THE ENERGY MANAGEMENT LOOP IN THE SHOULDER BELT(S).
THESE VEHICLES WERE BUILT WITH FRONT SEAT BELT SYSTEMS WITH NO ENERGY MANAGEMENT LOOPS AND MAY NOT MEET THE HEAD INJURY CRITERIA REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS NO. 208, "OCCUPANT CRASH PROTECTION."
IN THE EVENT OF A VEHICLE CRASH, THE OCCUPANTS OF THESE SEATS MAY NOT BE PROPERLY RESTRAINED.
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE RETRACTOR PORTION OF THE SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY(S) WITH ONE HAVING THE NEWLY DESIGNED ENERGY-MANAGEMENT TWIN-LOOP SYSTEM.
