Summary

Issue: On certain vehicles, the recall repairs completed by a BMW dealer during recall 12 83 24RC (Transport Canada recall no. 2024-444) may not be effective. As a result, certain vehicles require a second repair. On certain vehicles, if you try to start the engine repeatedly, the starter could overheat. If this happens, and nearby components contact the starter, it could cause a fire. Safety Risk: A fire can create the risk of injury. Corrective Actions: BMW will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the engine starter.

Summary

Issue: On certain vehicles, the windshield may not have been sealed properly. As a result, water could leak into the passenger-side power distribution box and/or electronic control unit. If this happens, there could be a short circuit and/or the headlights may not work. Safety Risk: A short circuit can create the risk of a fire, even while the vehicle is parked and turned off. Headlights that don't work could reduce visibility and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: None of the affected vehicles have been delivered to customers. BMW will instruct dealers to inspect and, if necessary, reseal the windshield. The dealer will also replace any damaged wiring and control units.

Summary

Issue: On certain vehicles, a motor in the integrated brake control module could fail and cause reduced power brake assist and a loss of rear hydraulic brakes. As a result, there may be reduced braking, and the antilock braking system (ABS) and dynamic stability control (DSC) may not work. Safety Risk: Reduced braking can cause extended stopping distances and could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, antilock brake and stability control systems that don't work could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the integrated brake system.

Summary

Issue: On certain vehicles, the tire and loading information label does not list that there is no spare tire in both official languages. The label reads as "NONE" when it should read as "NONE / AUCUN". Canadian regulations require the information to be listed on the label in both English and French. Safety Risk: This error does not affect vehicle safety. Corrective Actions: This is not a recall. The company has corrected the tire and loading information label for all new vehicles.

Summary

Issue: On certain vehicles, the fabric for the passenger-front knee airbag may not have been stitched properly. As a result, the passenger-front knee airbag may not inflate properly in a crash. Safety Risk: An airbag that doesn't inflate properly could increase the risk of injury in a crash. Corrective Actions: BMW will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the passenger-front knee airbag. BMW recommends not to transport a person in the front-passenger seat until the recall repairs have been completed.

Summary

Issue: On certain vehicles, the springs that lock the backrest for the third-row seat may not have been installed correctly. As a result, the seat backrest may not fully lock in place. Safety Risk: A seat backrest that isn't locked could move in a crash and increase the risk of injury. Corrective Actions: BMW will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect the third-row seat and reinstall the compression springs, as necessary. To reduce the safety risk, BMW recommends that you should not transport any passengers in the third-row seat until the recall repairs have been completed.

Summary

Issue: On certain vehicles, a software problem could allow you to close the sunroof remotely without the key fob inside the vehicle. Canadian regulations require the key fob to be in or near the vehicle when closing the sunroof. Safety Risk: A sunroof that can be closed without the key fob in or near the vehicle could create a risk of injury. Corrective Actions: BMW will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to reprogram the roof function control unit. Alternatively, you can download an over-the-air update to fix this problem.
