Certain passenger vehicles. An electrolytic capacitor contained in the amplifier for each rear speaker could leak an electrolyte, which may in time and in the presence of humidity, cause an unwanted conductive path. This condition could result in the amplifier overheating and a potential fire risk. Correction: Volkswagen has not yet provided the remedy for this recall.
THE AIR BAG SENSOR ON THESE VEHICLES MAY MALFUNCTION AND CAUSE THE AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM TO DEPLOY WITHOUT AN IMPACT OR ACCIDENT. DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM WITHOUT WARNING COULD CAUSE A DRIVER TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. CORRECTION: AIR BAG SENSOR CONTROL MODULE WILL BE REPLACED ON AFFECTED VEHICLES.
ON VEHICLES WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, A LOW OIL LEVEL IN THE DIFFERENTIAL COULD CAUSE PREMATURE BEARING AND GEAR WEAR AND EVENTUAL FAILURE OF THE DIFFERENTIAL. THIS COULD RESULT IN POSSIBLE DRIVE WHEEL LOCK-UP AND LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL. CORRECTION: DIFFERENTIAL WILL BE DRAINED AND OIL WILL BE REPLACED WITH AN ADVANCED DESIGN HIGH PERFORMANCE GEAR OIL. OWNERS WILL BE PROVIDED WITH A REVISED MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE.
On certain Audi 200 turbo and 5000 turbo, the fuel injector seals may harden due to high temperature and alcohol in fuel. This could allow fuel to escape and leak into the engine compartment as a result of turbo pressure. Fuel escaping in this manner could drop onto hot engine components and cause a fire. Correction: Fuel injector seals will be replaced with improved seals, fuel lines will be replaced with fire resistant fuel lines and the sound proofing pad will be replaced with an improved surface treated non- flammable pad. Also, measures will be taken to better seal the engine against lubricant leakage.
