On certain vehicles, the air ride suspension control valve supply line is not plumbed through an air pressure protection valve. In the event of an air suspension bag failure, there will be loss of air pressure in the "b" system which supplies air pressure to the front steer axle brakes. This could result in loss of front steer axle brakes and increased stopping distances. Correction: Air pressure protection valve will be installed.

NOTE: VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH BENDIX AUTOMATIC TRACTION RELAY VALVE. THE TRACTION RELAY VALVE SOLENOID EXHAUST CAN BE OBSTRUCTED DUE TO BUILD UP OF ROAD CONTAMINATION, WHICH MAY FREEZE DURING COLD WEATHER OPERATION. THE OBSTRUCTED EXHAUST MAY, WITHOUT WARNING, AND AFTER A BRAKING TRACTION EVENT, KEEP THE REAR BRAKES APPLIED WITHOUT ANY BRAKE PEDAL MOVEMENT BY THE DRIVER. CORRECTION: A NEW TRACTION RELAY VALVE ASSEMBLY WILL BE INSTALLED ON AFFECTED VEHICLES.

NOTE: VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH ROCKWELL WABCO SYSTEM SAVER 1000 AIR DRYERS. IN AIR BRAKE SYSTEMS REQUIRING A LARGE VOLUME OF AIR TO PASS THROUGH THE DRYER IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME, THE DRYER CANNOT REMOVE ALL OF THE MOISTURE FROM THE AIR. IN A COLD ENVIRONMENT THIS MOISTURE MAY FREEZE AND EFFECTIVELY BLOCK THE AIR LINES DOWNSTREAM OF THE DRYER RESULTING IN AN AIR PRESSURE BUILD UP IN THE DRYER. THIS AIR PRESSURE MAY EVENTUALLY CAUSE THE DRYER CARTRIDGE TO SEPARATE FROM THE DRYER. THE SEPARATED CARTRIDGE MAY CAUSE BODILY INJURY TO ANYONE STANDING NEAR THE DRYER AT THE INSTANT OF SEPARATION. CORRECTION: PRESSURE RELIEF VALVES WILL BE INSTALLED IN THE DRYER OUTLET PORTS ON THE AFFECTED VEHICLES.

United States records (NHTSA) · 3
These are NHTSA campaigns for 1994 Volvo Fe vehicles sold in the United States. They are not Canadian recalls: NHTSA's VIN lookup has no Canadian data, and a US campaign may have no Canadian counterpart, or one under a different number covering different vehicles. For a vehicle sold in Canada, go by the Transport Canada listing above and Volvo's Canadian VIN lookup.
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: CLASS 8 HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS. THE AIR SUSPENSION CONTROL VALVE SUPPLY LINE WAS NOT PLUMBED THROUGH AN AIR PRESSURE PROTECTION VALVE. IN THE EVENT OF A FAILURE, THERE WOULD BE LOSS OF AIR PRESSURE IN THE 'B' SYSTEM AIR RESERVOIR THAT SUPPLIES AIR PRESSURE FOR THE FRONT STEER AXLE BRAKES.
THIS CONDITION WOULD RESULT IN INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCES.
DEALERS WILL INSTALL THE NECESSARY AIR PRESSURE PROTECTION VALVE.

THE TRACTION SOLENOID EXHAUST CAN BE OBSTRUCTED DUE TO INADEQUATE DRAINAGE AND A BUILD-UP OF ROAD CONTAMINATION BETWEEN THE MOUNTING BRACKET AND THE SOLENOID HOUSING. THE OBSTRUCTED EXHAUST PREVENTS THE RELAY VALVE CONTROL AIR PRESSURE FROM VENTING AFTER A DIFFERENTIAL BRAKING TRACTION EVENT.
THIS CONDITION WOULD KEEP THE REAR AXLE SERVICE BRAKES APPLIED WITHOUT ANY BRAKE PEDAL MOVEMENT BY THE DRIVER INCREASING THE RISK OF A VEHICLE ACCIDENT.
DEALERS WILL REMOVE THE SUSPECT VALVE AND INSTALL A NEW VALVE THAT HAS A MODIFIED SOLENOID HOUSING WHICH WILL ALLOW FOR SUFFICIENT DRAINAGE AND A NEW VALVE MOUNTING BRACKET WITH INCREASED HEIGHT TO REDUCE ENTRY OF CONTAMINATION.

AIR SYSTEM BLOCKAGE IN THE AIR DRYER OCCURS DEGRADING THE MOISTURE REMOVING CAPABILITIES OF THE DRYER WHEN THE VEHICLE IS OPERATED IN A COLD ENVIRONMENT AND MOISTURE ACCUMULATES AND FREEZES IN THE AIR DRYER OR IN THE LINE BETWEEN THE DRYER AND THE AIR SYSTEM RESERVOIR. THE AIR DRYER CAN BECOME OVERPRESSURIZED CAUSING THE AIR DRYER CARTRIDGE TO SEPARATE FROM THE MOUNTING BASE.
IF THE AIR DRYER SEPARATES FROM THE BASE, THE CARTRIDGECAN SEPARATE SUFFICIENTLY ENOUGH TO CAUSE PERSONAL INJURY OR PROPERTY DAMAGE.
DEALERS WILL EQUIP AIR SYSTEMS WITH A PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE TO BE LOCATED BETWEEN THE COMPRESSOR AND THE AIR DRYER. THIS PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE IS INTENDED TO VENT IF EXCESSIVE PRESSURE DEVELOPS IN THE AIR DRYER.

1994 Volvo Fe recall questions
Transport Canada lists 4 recalls for the 1994 Volvo Fe model year. That counts campaigns naming this model year, not recalls on your vehicle: many cover only a VIN range or production window, and some only vehicles found on inspection. NHTSA lists 3 United States campaigns for the US-market model, shown separately; a US campaign may have no Canadian equivalent.
Enter your VIN in Volvo's Canadian recall lookup, or call a Volvo dealer with your VIN. In Canada the manufacturer is responsible for showing recall and repair status for each VIN, so its lookup is the authoritative answer. Cardog uses your VIN only to find the model year; the recalls shown here are listed for that model year and are not matched to your VIN.
Not necessarily. NHTSA campaigns cover vehicles sold in the United States, and NHTSA's VIN lookup has no Canadian data. When a defect also affects Canadian vehicles, the manufacturer files a separate notice with Transport Canada, often under a different number and sometimes covering a different set of vehicles. For a Canadian vehicle, go by the Transport Canada listing and Volvo's Canadian lookup.
Safety recall repairs are normally done at no charge by an authorised Volvo dealer. The manufacturer's notice for each campaign sets out the remedy and any conditions, so confirm with the dealer when you book.
Once Volvo's lookup or a dealer confirms a recall applies, book the repair with an authorised Volvo dealer and bring your VIN. If the manufacturer's notice says not to drive the vehicle or to park it outside, follow that instruction. Parts can take time, so book early.
Follow the manufacturer's notice for that recall. Most allow normal driving until the repair; some tell owners to stop driving or to park outside until it is fixed. Cardog does not grade recalls by severity: the manufacturer's notice and your dealer are the source.
Manufacturers must notify owners they have on record. If you bought the vehicle used or have moved, update your details with Volvo Canada so notices reach you, and check the manufacturer's lookup from time to time.
