Note: vehicles equipped with e.f.i. And short (6 1/2 ft.) Box. These vehicles do not comply with CMVSS 301 - fuel system integrity. Vehicles built without a rear bumper may not comply with the rear impact test requirements of the standard. A rear impact resulted in fuel leakage due to pickup box crossmember contact with the fuel pump module nipples. Correction: Vehicles will have reinforcement blocker brackets installed to the undercarriage to restrict pickup box travel.

IN A REAR END COLLISION, THE PICKUP BOX CROSSMEMBER COULD CONTACT THE FUEL PUMP MODULES FUEL LINE, CAUSING A FUEL LEAK WHICH WOULD BE IN NON-COMPLIANCE WITH FMVSS 301.
CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT: LEAKAGE OF FUEL COULD CAUSE A FIRE IF A SOURCE OF IGNITION IS PRESENT.
INSTALL TWO PICKUP BOX REINFORCEMENT BLOCKER BRACKETS TO THE UNDERCARRIAGE TO ELIMINATE CONTACT WITH FUEL LINE.

PLASTIC HYDRAULIC CLUTCH SYSTEM COMPONENTS ARE SUBJECT TO EXHAUST SYSTEM HEAT DAMAGE DUE TO PROLONGED COLD, HIGH SPEED IDLE OPERATION.
CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT: HYDRAULIC FLUID LEAKAGE COULD OCCUR CREATING THE POTENTIAL FOR A MINOR FIRE FROM FLUID CONTACTING THE HOT EXHAUST.
INSTALL PROTECTIVE HEAT SHIELDS BETWEEN THE EXHAUST SYSTEM AND AFFECTED CLUTCH SYSTEM COMPONENTS.

DUE TO IMPROPER MATERIAL CONSTRUCTION THE HYDRO-BOOST FLUID RETURN HOSE MAY NOT BE CAPABLE OF WITHSTANDING THE TEMPERATURES AND/OR PRESSURES EXPERIENCED WITH THE HYDRO-BOOST SYSTEM. ALSO, THE HYDRO-BOOST FLUID HIGH PRESSURE HOSE ASSEMBLY MAY HAVE BEEN MISLOCATED, ALLOWING THE ASSEMBLY TO CONTACT THE FRAME SIDE RAIL. ABRASION RESULTING FROM CONTINUED CONTACT ALONG WITH IMPROPER MATERIAL CONSTRUCTION MAY CAUSE PRESSURE HOSE FAILURE. EITHER OF THESE CONDITIONS MAY CAUSE HYDRO-BOOST FLUID LEAKAGE, RESULTING IN THE LOSS OF POWER ASSIST FOR THE STEERING AND BRAKING SYSTEMS. COMPLETE LOSS OF STEERING OR BRAKING WILL NOT OCCUR SINCE BOTH SYSTEMS WOULD REVERT TO MANUAL OPERATION.
THE DEALER WILL INSTALL A HYDRO-BOOST FLUID RETURN HOSE CONSTRUCTED FORM THE PROPER MATERIAL, POSITIONING THE HOSE ASSEMBLY TO ENSURE ADEQUATE CLEARANCE BETWEEN IT AND THE FRAME SIDE RAIL.

On certain vehicles, the "hydroboost" hydraulic system high pressure hose assembly may be improperly routed and can contact the frame side rail resulting in a leak in the hose assembly. This could result in a loss of power assist to the steering and braking systems.

IMPROPER ROUTING OF THE "HYDROBOOST" HYDRAULIC SYSTEM HIGH PRESSURE HOSE ASSEMBLY COULD ALLOW A TUBULAR SECTION TO CONTACT THE FRAME SIDE RAIL. ABRASION FROM THE CONTACT COULD RESULT, CAUSING A LEAK IN THE HOSE ASSEMBLY.
THE DEALER WILL REROUTE "HYDROBOOST" HIGH PRESSURE HOSE ASSEMBLIES AND ANY DAMAGED HOSES WILL BE REPLACED.
