On certain vehicles operated in areas of high salt use, the spare tire hoist cable may corrode and eventually break. This would allow the spare tire to fall off the vehicle possibly resulting in a road hazard for other vehicles. Correction: A letter will be sent to owners of affected vehicles with maintenance and inspection instructions for spare tire hoist cable assemblies. Additionally, the letter will advise the owner that, if the cable breaks during that inspection, their dealer will repair the assembly. This policy will be in effect until December 31, 2002.

On certain crew cab pick ups, the front inner corner of the fuel tank may contact the body sill and over time wear a hole in or crack the fuel tank at the point of contact. This condition could result in fuel leakage and in the presence of an ignition source, a fire could occur. Correction: Tank will be inspected for wear and a spacer will be installed between the fuel tank and the front crossmember, or if necessary, the fuel tank will be replaced.

The damage to the tire reinforcing structure in the bead "toe" area would likely manifest itself as a bulge in the sidewall after the tire is inflated. This damage could result in rapid air loss, which could cause injuries to anyone if they were handling the tire when this occurred. Correction: Tires will be demounted and inspected for bead damage. If bead damage is present, the tire will be replaced.

This could cause the transmission to not obtain mechanical PARK when the shift lever is placed in the PARK position. Not necessarily. NHTSA campaigns cover vehicles sold in the United States, and NHTSA's VIN lookup has no Canadian data. When a defect also affects Canadian vehicles, the manufacturer files a separate notice with Transport Canada, often under a different number and sometimes covering a different set of vehicles. For a Canadian vehicle, go by the Transport Canada listing and GMC's Canadian lookup.
Safety recall repairs are normally done at no charge by an authorised GMC dealer. The manufacturer's notice for each campaign sets out the remedy and any conditions, so confirm with the dealer when you book.
Once GMC's lookup or a dealer confirms a recall applies, book the repair with an authorised GMC dealer and bring your VIN. If the manufacturer's notice says not to drive the vehicle or to park it outside, follow that instruction. Parts can take time, so book early.
Follow the manufacturer's notice for that recall. Most allow normal driving until the repair; some tell owners to stop driving or to park outside until it is fixed. Cardog does not grade recalls by severity: the manufacturer's notice and your dealer are the source.
Manufacturers must notify owners they have on record. If you bought the vehicle used or have moved, update your details with GMC Canada so notices reach you, and check the manufacturer's lookup from time to time.
