ON VEHICLES WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, A LOW OIL LEVEL IN THE DIFFERENTIAL COULD CAUSE PREMATURE BEARING AND GEAR WEAR AND EVENTUAL FAILURE OF THE DIFFERENTIAL. THIS COULD RESULT IN POSSIBLE DRIVE WHEEL LOCK-UP AND LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL. CORRECTION: DIFFERENTIAL WILL BE DRAINED AND OIL WILL BE REPLACED WITH AN ADVANCED DESIGN HIGH PERFORMANCE GEAR OIL. OWNERS WILL BE PROVIDED WITH A REVISED MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE.

On certain Audi 200 turbo and 5000 turbo, the fuel injector seals may harden due to high temperature and alcohol in fuel. This could allow fuel to escape and leak into the engine compartment as a result of turbo pressure. Fuel escaping in this manner could drop onto hot engine components and cause a fire. Correction: Fuel injector seals will be replaced with improved seals, fuel lines will be replaced with fire resistant fuel lines and the sound proofing pad will be replaced with an improved surface treated non- flammable pad. Also, measures will be taken to better seal the engine against lubricant leakage.

On certain Audi 5000 turbo and 5000 Quattro, repeated `topping off' of the fuel tank after the gas station pump has stopped the fuel supply during refuelling, reduces the expansion space within the fuel tank. Consequent pressure conditions within the evaporative emission control system could result in fuel vapours being released into the engine compartment. Heat from the turbo exhaust system could ignite the vapours and cause an engine compartment fire with a risk of injury to the vehicle occupants. Correction: Vehicles will be fitted with a new vent valve and a new type charcoal filter vent hose. In addition, Quattro models will receive a redesigned fuel filler neck.

THE REAR BRAKE CALIPERS COULD BIND AND CONSEQUENTLY OVERHEAT. AN OVERHEATED CALIPER COULD CAUSE THE BRAKE PEDAL TO FEEL SPONGY, AND IN EXTREME CASES, ONE OF THE TWO BRAKE CIRCUITS COULD BECOME INOPERATIVE. THIS WOULD INCREASE STOPPING DISTANCES AND COULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH. CORRECTION: DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND IF NECESSARY, REPLACE REAR BRAKE CALIPERS. V.I.N. United States records (NHTSA) · 4
These are NHTSA campaigns for 1987 Audi 5000 vehicles sold in the United States. They are not Canadian recalls: NHTSA's VIN lookup has no Canadian data, and a US campaign may have no Canadian counterpart, or one under a different number covering different vehicles. For a vehicle sold in Canada, go by the Transport Canada listing above and Audi's Canadian VIN lookup.
THE DIFFERENTIAL OIL OF THE TRANSAXLE IS LOST OVER TIME DUE TO EVAPORATION. LOW OIL LEVELS CAUSE PREMATURE BEARING AND GEAR WEAR AND EVENTUAL FAILURE OF THE DIFFERENTIAL.
IN THE EVENT OF FAILURE, THE VEHICLE'S DRIVE WHEELS COULDLOSE POWER. IN EXTREME CIRCUMSTANCES, THE FRONT WHEELS LOCK, CAUSING RAPIDDECELERATION RESULTING IN POSSIBLE LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL AND AN ACCIDENT.
DRAIN AND REPLACE THE DIFFERENTIAL GEAR OIL WITH OIL HAVING HIGHER PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS.

FUEL INJECTION SEALS MAY HARDEN, DUE TO HIGH TEMPERATURE AND ALCOHOL IN SOME FUELS, AND ALLOW FUEL TO ESCAPE INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT.
FUEL DRIPPING ONTO HOT ENGINE COMPONENTS COULD CAUSE ANENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE.
REPLACE ENGINES FUEL INJECTOR SEALS WITH IMPROVED SEALS PLUS IMPROVEMENTS DESIGNED TO BETTER INSULATE THE ENGINE AGAINST FIRE RISK.

REPEATED TOPPING OFF OF FUEL TANK DURING REFUELING REDUCES THE EXPANSION SPACE WITHIN THE TANK ALLOWING VAPORS TO ESCAPE FROM THE CHARCOAL FILTER TO OUTSIDE RATHER THAN BEING INDUCTED INTO THE ENGINE.
ESCAPING VAPORS COULD IGNITE BY HEAT EMITTED BY THEEXHAUST SYSTEM.
INSTALL REDESIGNED FILLER NECK AND A NEW VENT VALVE AND HOSE FOR CHARCOAL FILTER. ALSO, STOP REFUELING WHEN PUMP NOZZLE SHUTS OFF.

1987 Audi 5000 recall questions
Transport Canada lists 4 recalls for the 1987 Audi 5000 model year. That counts campaigns naming this model year, not recalls on your vehicle: many cover only a VIN range or production window, and some only vehicles found on inspection. NHTSA lists 4 United States campaigns for the US-market model, shown separately; a US campaign may have no Canadian equivalent.
Enter your VIN in Audi's Canadian recall lookup, or call a Audi dealer with your VIN. In Canada the manufacturer is responsible for showing recall and repair status for each VIN, so its lookup is the authoritative answer. Cardog uses your VIN only to find the model year; the recalls shown here are listed for that model year and are not matched to your VIN.
Not necessarily. NHTSA campaigns cover vehicles sold in the United States, and NHTSA's VIN lookup has no Canadian data. When a defect also affects Canadian vehicles, the manufacturer files a separate notice with Transport Canada, often under a different number and sometimes covering a different set of vehicles. For a Canadian vehicle, go by the Transport Canada listing and Audi's Canadian lookup.
Safety recall repairs are normally done at no charge by an authorised Audi dealer. The manufacturer's notice for each campaign sets out the remedy and any conditions, so confirm with the dealer when you book.
Once Audi's lookup or a dealer confirms a recall applies, book the repair with an authorised Audi dealer and bring your VIN. If the manufacturer's notice says not to drive the vehicle or to park it outside, follow that instruction. Parts can take time, so book early.
Follow the manufacturer's notice for that recall. Most allow normal driving until the repair; some tell owners to stop driving or to park outside until it is fixed. Cardog does not grade recalls by severity: the manufacturer's notice and your dealer are the source.
Manufacturers must notify owners they have on record. If you bought the vehicle used or have moved, update your details with Audi Canada so notices reach you, and check the manufacturer's lookup from time to time.
